kitty pryde
born a chicago girl
with california dreams
and the desire to always learn
the moment that caroline saylor and thomas pace met on a blind date the sparks flew. the two were 20 somethings making a name for themselves in chicago. thomas was originally from the area and caroline went to school there and was at the beginning of her nursing path. they shared a love of film and wine and they seemed destined to live happily ever after. they were married two years after meeting and they would welcome a daughter not long after that named kristina. it would be the only child for them, thanks mostly in part to caroline's busy career in the emergency room. kristina spent a lot of time with her paternal grandparents growing up because her father wasn't the most attentive and he would spend late evenings in the office and with her mother working odd hours, she needed to stay somewhere.

when krissy was nine years old her mother told her that they were going to go and visit her grandparents in boston. she didn't understand that when her mom said that she meant for good but when they arrived caroline explained everything to her. she said that mom and dad weren't in love anymore and they were taking some time away from each other and that they would be living in boston now. krissy cried herself to sleep for a week while she adjusted to being away from some of her friends forever but she soon came to terms with the decision. krissy had always been a more reserved girl in chicago who would much rather listen than be a leader but she found herself speaking out more and found friends that she could be loyal to.

at thirteen years old krissy started to have chronic migraines that caroline thought was a reacton to krissy finding out that her father had remarried and she had a half-sister. the news was shocking for krissy because she thought that her parents were just taking a break but that was permananent. her sister was born two years after they had left chicago and she wanted to meet her. she tried calling her dad on the phone and he didn't want to talk to his daughter at all. when he did take her phone call he told her her only had one daughter now. krissy was obviously distaught over this news and hid herself in her room for days at a time. when the headaches didn't go away caroline decided to take action and she was diagnosed with chronic migraines and she was put into therapy for depression.

the migraines didn't stop krissy from doing the one thing she loved more than anything else in the world: dance. she had been dancing since her days in chicago and she studied dance as much as she could. she felt better in pointe shoes than she did in regular shoes sometimes and she had dreams of dancing in the ballets in new york. she had always been told that she wasn't tall or lithe enough to be a prima ballerina but it didn't stop her from wanting to be a dancer. she had big dreams and those dreams involved living in new york. caroline wanted her daughter to follow her dreams and supported her and krissy was accepted into julliard around the same time that caroline was accepted to ucla to get her masters in nursing. she had held off until krissy went to college. it would be the first time that they would be separated and with one on the east coast and one on the west coast it would be hard but they would keep in touch. at krissy's high school graduation her father had made a surprise visit and krissy shunned him because he had come alone and didn't bring krissy's half sister with him.

when she arrived in new york she underestimated how much work it was going to take going to julliard. she was in dance classes for long hours every single day and she spent so much of her downtime icing down her body after a long day. simple injuries were par for the course with that sort of thing and krissy had experienced things like that before. what she hadn't experienced was being so far away from her mom who she missed very much. being in the big apple by herself taught her an independence she didn't know that she had, mixed in with self doubt and wondering why she would never be good enough. she had these feelings before in dance classes but her mom had always been there to reassure her that she was and now she didn't have that. when she was left alone with her own thoughts at night krissy was heading into a spiral. she would come out occasionally and she thought medical help and started seeing a therapist regularly. the beginning of her sophomore year she was in class and she was doing lifts and jumps when she had crashed to the ground, tearing both her acl and mcl. the pain was unlike anything she had ever experienced and she decided that she loved dance but not so much as to be in constant pain. she stayed in new york until she figured out that she wanted to follow in her mom's footsteps and applied to a nursing program at ucla.

moving from the east coast to the west coast was a big change for krissy but she enjoyed the sunshine and warm weather. she also enjoyed her studies and her mom was so proud of her for following in her footsteps. while she was going to school she tried to reach out to her little sister but she had no luck getting a response from her. she was dissappointed and continued on in her studies. she also met a girl that she liked for the first time and realized that she had spent so much time on dance before that she hadn't explored any relationships outside of high school crushes and dating boys in high school as much as one can when they are in high school. this girl was sweet and she seemed to like krissy too but their studies meant they didn't have a lot of time for each other. they split up but remained friends and krissy realized she didn't have a solid idea of what a healthy relationship was since she had grown up with a single mom and she barely remembered a time her parents were happy. when she talked to her mom about it she found out that her dad had cheated on her mom and her step-mother was actually the woman he had been having an affair with all of those years ago. it was around that time that krissy's mom started dating a guy named jim who krissy really liked.

post-graduation krissy got a job working at cedar-sanai in the emergency department. she liked los angeles but her mother had moved to san francisco and she decided that she wanted to move there too and waited for a position in the emergency department to open at the same hospital. in 2013 she moved to san francisco to start her new job and her mother worked in the intensive care unit in the same hospital. it didn't take her long to adjust to san francisco and she started going to book clubs, dating and enjoying her life. she still has a problem with letting her work consume her but she's trying really hard to find a good work/life balance and take time for friends, loved ones and hobbies that she enjoys. she has a subscription to the san francisco ballet and she loves to go and see both professional and community theatre in her spare time.

Katherine Anne "Kitty" Pryde was born in Deerfield, Illinois, to Carmen and Theresa Pryde. Of Jewish descent, her paternal grandfather, Samuel Prydeman, was held in a Nazi concentration camp during World War II. Kitty started to have headaches at age thirteen, signaling the emergence of her mutant powers. She was approached by both the X-Men's Charles Xavier and the Hellfire Club's White Queen, Emma Frost, both of whom hoped to recruit her for their respective causes. Kitty was unnerved by Frost, observing that the White Queen looked at her as if she were "something good to eat." She got along better with Xavier and the three X-Men who escorted him, quickly becoming friends with Ororo Munroe. Ororo told Kitty who she really was and about the X-Men, which made the teenager even more enthusiastic about attending Xavier's school.

Their conversation was cut short when they (along with Wolverine and Colossus) were attacked by armored mercenaries in the employ of Frost and the Hellfire Club. The X-Men defeated their assailants, but were subdued by the White Queen's telepathic powers immediately after. In the confusion, Kitty was separated from the X-Men, and not captured along with them. She managed to contact Cyclops, Phoenix, and Nightcrawler. With the help of Dazzler and Pryde, those X-Men rescued their teammates from the Hellfire Club.

The White Queen appeared to perish in the battle, which meant she was no longer competing with Xavier for the approval of Kitty's parents. Kitty's parents had not heard from her in more than a day, because during that time she was first being pursued by the Hellfire Club's men and then working with the X-Men to save their friends. All they knew was Kitty had left with Xavier's "students" to get a soda, there had been reports that the soda shop had been blown up, and Kitty had been missing since. Therefore, they were angry at Xavier when he finally returned with Kitty in tow. At first, it seemed like there was no chance of Kitty being allowed to attend the school and join the X-Men. Phoenix then used her considerable telepathic power to erase the memories of Kitty's parents and plant false ones, resulting in a complete shift in their attitude towards Xavier. Kitty was then allowed to enroll at Xavier's school with her parents' blessing, becoming the youngest member of the team.
